Virginia creeper
Parthenocissus quinquefolia (L.) Planch.
Adaptable native vine with five-part leaves that turn brilliant scarlet in fall and blue berries for birds. Climbs walls or covers banks.
Size over time
Typical landscape size 9–15 m (30–49 ft) tall and 1.5–3 m (5–10 ft) wide; fast growth, about 3 years to maturity. Intermediate sizes use the planner’s growth curve (k = 0.45) from the #3 install size.
Design notes
- Clings with adhesive pads — fine on masonry, keep off wood siding and gutters.
- Five leaflets (poison ivy has three).
