Roadmap

Where OpenLandscape3D is going

Ordered, not dated. Plans change as we learn from pilot users; this page changes with them.

  1. Foundation

    Done
    • Brand, site and shared schemas
    • Open interchange format with OpenPlan3D
    • Plant catalog proof for three U.S. pilot regions
  2. Web planner

    Now
    • Boundary, spot elevations, beds, lawn, paths, patios, fences
    • Regional plants: singles, rows, masses, grids
    • Design checks and overrides
    • Season and growth preview
    • Plant schedule, task calendar and OpenPlan3D export
  3. Living landscape

    Next
    • Reviewed regional plant records and a larger catalog
    • Sun-path shadow study
    • Water budget and basic irrigation zones
    • Presentation sheets
  4. Native field tools

    In development
    • iPhone and iPad app: GPS boundary walk, AR measuring, observations, inventory, on-site review
    • Web ⇄ iOS transfer links
    • macOS desktop client (later)
  5. Later

    Planned
    • Survey/GIS and LandXML import
    • Contours, grading and cut-and-fill
    • Construction documents and DXF/DWG
    • Team workspaces and proposals
    • Nursery availability, quotes and substitutions

Release gates we hold ourselves to: a project round-trips with OpenPlan3D without loss; every recommendation is reproducible from versioned rules and cited facts; core design works without any commercial catalog; and accessibility, privacy, export and crash recovery ship with each release.

OpenLandscape3D is free and open source. Draw the site, place regional plants, and scrub through seasons and years before anything goes in the ground.
