Skyline thornless honeylocust
Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis‘Skyline’
Also called thornless honeylocust.
Thornless, largely seedless honeylocust with a broad pyramidal crown. Fine leaflets cast light, filtered shade that lets lawn and perennials grow beneath.
Size over time
Typical landscape size 12–15 m (39–49 ft) tall and 9–12 m (30–39 ft) wide; fast growth, about 15 years to maturity. Intermediate sizes use the planner’s growth curve (k = 0.45) from the BB-2in install size.
Design notes
- Tiny leaflets drop and disappear into lawns — little raking.
- Widely planted; mix with other species to avoid monoculture pest outbreaks (plant bug, webworm).
Regions
Native range: Central and eastern U.S. (species).
Native to these OpenLandscape3D pilot regions:
Native status describes where the species occurs naturally. It is not a promise that it suits a particular garden; site conditions decide that.
