Hop bush
Dodonaea viscosa
Also called hop bush, hopseed bush.
Fast, upright evergreen for informal screens in hot, dry sites. Purple-leaved forms add colour; papery seed capsules follow the inconspicuous flowers.
Size over time
Typical landscape size 2.4–3.6 m (8–12 ft) tall and 1.8–3 m (6–10 ft) wide; fast growth, about 4 years to maturity. Intermediate sizes use the planner’s growth curve (k = 0.45) from the #3 install size.
Design notes
- Tolerates shearing as a formal hedge.
- Frost damage is possible below about −7 °C.
