Asiatic jasmine
Trachelospermum asiaticum (Siebold & Zucc.) Nakai
Dense, glossy evergreen groundcover for sun or shade in the South. Handles heat, drought and slopes once established.
Size over time
Typical landscape size 0.2–0.3 m (0–1 ft) tall and 0.6–0.9 m (2–3 ft) wide; medium growth, about 3 years to maturity. Intermediate sizes use the planner’s growth curve (k = 0.25) from the plug install size.
Design notes
- Edge it twice a year — it climbs trunks and walls if allowed.
- Rarely flowers in groundcover use.
Regions
Native range: Japan and Korea.
Not recorded as native to any of the three pilot regions.
Native status describes where the species occurs naturally. It is not a promise that it suits a particular garden; site conditions decide that.
