Emory oak
Quercus emoryi Torr.
Also called bellota.
Evergreen southwestern oak with stiff, glossy leaves and sweet acorns. A slow, tough shade tree for mid-elevation desert and grassland gardens.
Size over time
Typical landscape size 6–12 m (20–39 ft) tall and 6–10 m (20–33 ft) wide; slow growth, about 35 years to maturity. Intermediate sizes use the planner’s growth curve (k = 0.12) from the BB-2in install size.
Design notes
- Drops most old leaves in spring as new growth flushes.
- Prefers deep, infrequent watering; avoid lawn irrigation over the root zone.
