Muhlenbergia capillaris (Lam.) Trin.
Also called pink muhly grass, hairawn muhly.
Fine-textured native grass that erupts into clouds of pink flowers in fall. Spectacular in masses, backlit by low sun.
Size over time
Typical landscape size 0.6–0.9 m (2–3 ft) tall and 0.6–0.9 m (2–3 ft) wide; medium growth, about 3 years to maturity. Intermediate sizes use the planner’s growth curve (k = 0.25) from the #1 install size.

- Comb out or cut back old growth in late winter.
- Unreliable bloom north of zone 7; very reliable in the South and low desert.
