Design notes

  • Avoid shearing into boxes — remove the oldest canes at the base after bloom.
  • Flower buds can be killed in zone 4–5 winters; hardier cultivars exist.

Regions

Native range: Garden hybrid of Chinese species.

Not recorded as native to any of the three pilot regions.

Native status describes where the species occurs naturally. It is not a promise that it suits a particular garden; site conditions decide that.
