Yaupon holly
Ilex vomitoria
Also called yaupon holly, yaupon.
Tough native evergreen holly that tolerates salt, drought, wet soil and shearing. Grows into a large screen or small multi-stem tree.
Size over time
Typical landscape size 4–6 m (13–20 ft) tall and 3–5 m (10–16 ft) wide; medium growth, about 6 years to maturity. Intermediate sizes use the planner’s growth curve (k = 0.25) from the #3 install size.
Design notes
- Dwarf forms ('Nana', 'Schillings') stay near 1 m for low hedges.
- Female plants bear red fruit; weeping forms make narrow specimens.
